When I launched my book ‘Her Beaten Path’ in Feb 2020, I already had a dream to make a series of five books, where every character in Niandra’s life would have their own story. So it was but natural for me to begin with Tanya, who was Niandra’s best friend! I had decided that I would do it, but believe me, it was easier said than done.
Tanya’s character was an ‘I want to be in the background’ person and my goal was to help her become the best version of herself! I wanted her character to experience her own journey, unwrapping her personality, like one would, a gift.
Well, all my characters were based in Denmark, which has a beautiful history in itself. But I wanted her to also learn to express her own individuality, unlock the feminine within her and dare to know more about herself. A tall order indeed!
So the book began…The title itself was an enigma to me, although just like Niandra’s life, my storyline began to flow. I began to research places in order to find the best one to place Tanya. Very soon I did!!
I chose Italy! The place represented beauty, romance and knowledge, all coupled in one! I was excited indeed!
Oh then began the crazy part. The research!! I had to make sure everything I wrote about Italy was right. I read books about Italy, the architecture of the place, books showcasing Italy, bothered my friend for names of places and the culture there. Thankfully, I got all the information I needed. I am so lucky to have such people in my life!! Every character and their names were researched meticulously, even keeping meanings in mind! Nothing was too much. I had to give this one all I had!
The research was done, and the chapters began to unfold. My trusted friend and partner in all I do connected to my work, Vinda, was there with me every step of the way. She would make sure to push me to complete each chapter, and wait with bated breath for the next one! I still remember, when I finished 7 chapters, we sat and titled each one, and then slowly the title ‘Living My Storm, her fiery sea within was born.. We were so excited that it had finally happened!
By then Tanya’s story was getting interesting. So many twists and turns got introduced, that I never even imagined before it began unfolding! We also had decided that we would do most of the drawings ourselves for the chapters. And we did! My earlier book was a home production and this wasn’t turning out to be that different.
When Tanya reached the midpoint of her story, something happens to her, that threw everything to a grinding halt. The writer in me was astounded at the twist, and the Therapist in me, just couldn’t move forward without addressing it properly. Maybe the term is ‘writer’s block’ but for me, it’s that I went through everything with Tanya’s character, and it became so difficult for me to proceed.
Vinda kept encouraging me to move forward and slowly but surely, Tanya was back on track and the story continued to bloom into a beautiful flower. Tanya not only learned to express her individuality, but also unlocked a sensual side to her, which she hadn’t seen before. When the book was done, we were in awe at everything that happened in this journey.
This book and Tanya’s story is way more intense than Niandra’s story, but again, I believe it has something for everyone. I learned a lot through this book, and I really hope you find your own insights here too!
